ABOUT

People often ask me what it was like growing up with Dad being a famous 80s Rockstar. My Dad, Brian Mannix, was the frontman of The Uncanny X-Men for those that don't know. Growing up in my household was always loud and full of colour. My brother Max, Dad, and I would make home movies. Mum's our biggest cheerleader, always supporting us and working hard behind the scenes, but we even managed to get her involved in a few. We'd use our Barbie and Action Man dolls and would each have a voice role—a regular pastime and one of my fondest memories.  Making movies has been something that was just part of our lives growing up—always fun and got the whole family involved.

I did a bit of modelling when I was 17 and a lot of promo work, including being a grid girl for the Grand Prix.  I enjoyed this, but it wasn't until I was 19 and starred in my first theatre show, I Can't Believe it's Not Countdown, did I find my love for singing and acting. I got to play different artists from the 70s and 80s, as well as a few crazy fans.  The cast was excellent, and I learnt a lot.  It was also pretty special to be working with my Dad, who wrote and directed it.

Dad and I have a great relationship—one that is based on honesty and truth, even when it might not be what you want to hear. I go to him for his opinion on pretty much everything—from how I sound singing a particular song to everyday things like what outfit works better. Of course, I go to Mum for this stuff too, but she has the kindest heart, and sometimes that can get in the way of the truth to protect your feelings. Bless her. With Dad, however, I know he'll always give it to me straight, and I appreciate it so much.

I've worked a lot with Dad on different things. Lots of tv presenting and voice-overs for Sportsbet.com.au, and most recently recorded some voice-overs for his upcoming audiobook that is about to be released. I feel incredibly grateful to have my father guide me and give me these opportunities—it has been the perfect training ground.

Over the years, I've done various skits with Troy Kinne. He's great to work with and a ball of fun. It's hard not to laugh the entire time because he's always 'on'. I'm grateful to have worked with him on some hilarious skits, and I look forward to doing more.

This year I featured in a short film called 'Shallow Breath', directed and produced by Robbie Studsor, and entered into different film festivals. The cinematography alone is super impressive, so keep your eye out for it.

Along with acting, I've been singing in an acoustic duo, trio, and a full band for several years now, performing at corporate events, multiple weddings and private functions.  I love singing. And I love singing a lot of different styles. From country to pop, to rock, you name it, it's probably in the list somewhere haha. I have a very eclectic taste. I love The Beatles, Sam Cooke, The Rolling Stones, The Seekers, Chris Cornell, The Carpenters, Carrie Underwood, and Ed Sheeran, just to name a few. But, seriously, the list is way too long.

And lastly, I'm a voice-over artist. I guess you could say I've been a voice-over artist since I was around 5 when we'd make our home family movies (as previously mentioned) with our Barbie and Action Man dolls and any other doll we could find. Fast-forward to today, and I've worked on many campaigns for different organisations, including, but not limited to, Sportsbet.com.au, The Department of Education and Training Victoria, Priceless Productions, and APNA (The Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association). Recently, I've been doing the news segment on the 'Nursing Australia' podcast. It's fun, I love doing it, and I'm really extending my vocabulary— ‘Mucormycosis’ (pronounced: Muw-cor-my-co-sis) doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. Move over Peter Hitchener, Casey Mannix is coming in hot!

I'm spinning as many plates as possible and just giving it a red-hot crack. I love my work, and I'm so excited to see what the next 12 months hold.

Love,
Casey Layne Mannix
